Red Ivy in Lakeview is behind this modern-day speakeasy, set to open later this summer. Well, more accurately, 1914 is actually behind Red Ivy (the only way into this hush little spot is through Red Ivy's back door).
And the secrecy doesn't stop there; it trickles into 1914's cocktails, too. Fine spirits and classic libations are served in soup bowls and teacups and given disguised names like Strong Chicken Soup (read: whiskey).
The sophisticated spot takes its name from those good ol' days just before prohibition hit. White-collared and black-tie mixologists man the bar, while waitresses decked out in 1920s flapper attire flirtatiously take orders and serve drinks.
It's all so darling and just enough to make you forget that you're in the heart of Wrigleyville. Here's to keeping 1914 off the neighborhood's bustling bar-hopping scene.
