Creepin' It Up in the Club: Friday

Halloween weekend is full of scary bar and club events.
Tuesday Oct 31, 2006.     By Ben Rubenstein
Centerstage Chicago Nightlife City Guide Arts

Here's what's happening Friday, October 27. We've highlighted our picks (Centerstage says YES!) and the best prizes (Big money, no whammies!).

Vida: Dia de los Muertos
5 p.m.-2 a.m.; $5-$10; (also October 28, 5 p.m.-3 a.m.)
Come win cash prizes at the costume contest, and dance to sets by DJs Diablo and Oelio.

Centerstage says YES! Globe Pub: Hidden Treasure Halloween
8 p.m.-2 a.m.; $10
Get your commemorative grog and treasure map at the door, then search for Redbeard's Booty. If you're out for another kind of booty, $4 Pirate's Rum Punch and $3.50 Grolsch drafts will aid you in your quest. You can also win $300 in cash plus other prizes.

Big money, no whammies! Whiskey Blue: Chicago Trick & Treats
4 p.m.; no cover
Be one of the first 50 people to RSVP and get a "Trick & Treats" bag filled with three drink tickets, Urban Decay cosmetics and more. At the event, be sure to get your picture taken; your costumed self will then be posted online for voting. Winners will be announced on November 20. First place gets a trip for 2 to Cancun, second gets $500, and third gets $250.

Waterhouse: '80s Rocktoberfest
10 p.m.-2 a.m.
You'd do well to dress in an '80s-themed costume if you want a prize (note: Boy George is soo played out). Grab $3 Oktoberfest beers and $5 Waterhouse martinis and enjoy DJ Dapper Dan's '80s soundtrack.

Cubby Bear: Night of the Living Dead
9 p.m.
Three bands masquerading as your favorite dead stars of the past: Nevermind (Nirvana), Axis (Jimi Hendrix) and Strange Days (The Doors).

Reserve: The Devil Wears Prada Halloween Soiree
9 p.m.; $20, free before 11 p.m. with RSVP
Reserve a spot at this costume party and get an hour of free cocktails (9:30-10:30 p.m.). Then win some high class prizes from Prada at the costume contest. DJ Bogar provides the soundtrack.

Le Passage: Return of the Mummies
9 p.m.-5 a.m.
Walk like an Egyptian at this themed nightclub bash. DJ Tim Buc 2 spins eclectic hits in a decorative environment to bring you back to ancient Egyptian times. From 10 to 11 p.m., Snow Queen Vodka will sponsor a cocktail reception, and there are plenty of options after that: try the King Tut (Crown Royal, apple juice and cranberry juice on the rocks), Egyptian Templar (Bacardi O, apple cider and Midori garnished with Grenadine in a martini glass) and The Jewel of the Nile (Pama pomegranate, rum, mint leaves, sugar and lime).

Crobar: Dead/Sexy Halloween '06
10 p.m.-4 a.m.; $25
You probably won't hear the same song twice on this night. Six DJs spin at this annual costume party, presented by Purefuture: David Guetta, Mixin' Marc, Andrew Vonn, Dino G., Victor R. and Nathan Scott.

Fizz Bar & Grill: Halloween Spooktacular
8:30 p.m.; $6-$10 (reduced admission for those in costume)
Add some carbonation to your Halloween celebration...hear live music from Spare Parts, What It Is, Bifunkal and Mama Rogers. DJ Boy Elroy spins tunes throughout the night, and there's also a costume contest.

Centerstage says YES! Double Door: Halloween Bash
8 p.m.; $12 (also October 28, 9 p.m.) This holiday is all about being something you're not, so why should it be any different for the live entertainment at Halloween parties? This annual two-night showcase, now in its 10th year, features local bands masquerading as their rock n'roll heroes. Headliners Local H won't reveal their alter-egos yet, but you will see versions of The Beatles, Pink Floyd, The Rolling Stones, Daft Punk, The Clash, and others.

Sound-Bar: Shame, Sex and Shackles
9 p.m.; no cover before 10 p.m. with RSVP
At last, you can bring your naughty fetish out in the open...and everyone will think you're just going for the $3,000 in cash and prizes. Try to avoid the whip at this medieval S&M style bash.

Take Five: Halloween Party
8-11 p.m.; $20
OK, so not everything here costs $5; but you'll get plenty for your admission fee, including unlimited domestic drafts, select cocktails, wine, soda and a food buffet. Plus, you can make your money back tenfold if you win first prize in the costume contest.

Durty Nellie's: The Great Halloween Cover Up
10 p.m.; $6
If you can't make it into the city for the Double Door Halloween Bash, this is a good substitute: three bands will masquerade as notorious groups from the past. Artists TBA.

CD's & Me: Barn Dance Halloween Party
8 p.m.; $35
This Halloween hoedown is a local favorite and why not? This year, entertainment includes The Hat Guys and various DJs, plus $1000 in cash and prizes for the costume contest. Consumers will love the dinner buffet and unlimited wine and draft beer.

Centerstage says YES! Ontourage: Circus Carnival II
9 p.m.; no cover with circus-theme attire before 11 p.m.
Clowns aren't the only painted performers at this risque Big Top-theme event. Mario INK will be transforming bodies into all types of circus performers, including lions and tigers, while a ringmaster keeps everyone in line. We're guessing there won't be any elephants.

Enclave: Hollywood Past and Present
9 p.m.; cover varies
Quick: Who's the scariest professional athlete ever? If you said Dennis Rodman, you win...entrance to the famed NBA star's themed Friday night party (with cover, of course). There's be $3,000 in cash and prizes available, and you might even catch a glimpse of Carmen Electra! Just make sure it's really her.

Big money, no whammies! Congress Theatre: Red Masque Ball
8 p.m.-2 a.m.; $50 advance, $60 door
Have a frighteningly good time while supporting a great cause: the Michael Reese Staff HIV/AIDS Care Program, whose twice-weekly clinic provides outpatient care to patients in all stages of the disease. The 19th Annual Red Masque Ball includes an open bar until midnight, dancing until even later (Tributosaurus will pay homage to both the Rolling Stones and the best of Motown), appetizers from Rockit and Parlor and a silent auction and raffle, with prizes that include round trip airfare tickets and a guitar signed by Eric Clapton.

Excalibur: X-Ecutioners Pre-Party: The Devil's Rejects
$10
Prepare yourself for the big bash on Saturday with this warm-up party. Make sure to dress your best; a costume contest at midnight offers the opportunity for hundreds in cash and prizes. If you haven't yet seen Supernatural Chicago, Neil Tobin's one-man creep show running throughout the month at Excalibur, stop by at 8 p.m. for a showing ($25).

Vision Nightclub: Pimp 'n' Ho Halloween Ball
$10 for guys; free for ladies
Three words: Girls. Gone. Wild. Franchise starter Joe Francis, friend to fantasizers everywhere, hosts the Sixth Annual Pimp 'n' Ho Halloween Ball. Those who truly get pimped out and ho'ed up will be rewarded in the costume contest at 1 a.m., with more than $2,000 in cash and prizes.

Apartment: Saved By The Bell Halloween Party
9 p.m.-2 a.m.; no cover
School is in session at the Apartment on Friday, when Dennis Haskins (better known as Principal Belding) makes an appearance after 11 p.m. You may think you can put one over on him, but he's sure to be a tough judge in the Screech look-a-like contest as well as the Saved By The Bell trivia contest. $2 Pilsner Urquell Drafts.

Leg Room: Devils & Divas Couples Costume Contest
$10
Need some proof that your relationship is worth it? There's nothing like cold, hard cash. Compete with your significant other in the contest after midnight for more than $500 in cash and prizes. Costume-wise, we're guessing you should think a little past witches and warlocks.
