The thing is, it just doesn't get any better than the bloody mary at Bar Louie's Evanston location. There's not a hangover in the world that would keep us away from this thick, spicy, heavenly, Sunday morning (hell, any morning—or evening, for that matter) $6 concoction. But even more impressive is the fact that it stands out amidst the bar's mojitos minted to summer perfection, martinis of every color and seasonal plus regional brews. This drink menu is as swanky as a Gold Coast hotspot's and as affordable as suburban sports bar (options ring in below the $10 mark).
After downing your first mary, peruse the lengthy menu. Regardless of the state of your stomach, at least one of these picks will whet your appetite: from an overstuffed, oversized martini glass full of bruschetta or the goopy spinach-artichoke dip to the blackened fish po'boy or the classic Black Angus burger.
Between the entertaining soundtrack, low-key vibe, private-feeling round booths and wood tables that you can easily throw together for large groups, this place is easy to like, as long as you don't mind saving cash—Tuesday nights offer $1 burgers—and kicking back on the sidewalk patio with an ice-cold Blue Moon.
Average cost: $10-$20
