Don't write off the Lakeview location of this area chain as just another liquor store. Binny's Beverage Depot (located in an odd mock-castle) is a gourmand's paradise. Wines are primarily arranged by country, with overhead labels identifying Spain, Italy and the like. Bottles please both the poorest and the poshest: Whatever your poison, it's almost definitely available in both $6 and $60 formats. American, French and Australian wines have the best showing, though a few Portuguese wines make a brief appearance.
In true liquor-store fashion, you'll find plenty of booze and mixers, along with a decent-size selection of some impressive beers that includes plenty of Belgian ales.
In the back corner, you'll find a gourmet grocery and expansive cheese counter operated by an extremely friendly and knowledgeable staff. You won't be flying blind when you step up to the counter; they'll help you select the right mix of cheeses (you'll want to balance that sharp, nine-year cheddar with something a little milder). They'll also let you sample a few items (quite nice, when you're shelling out $15 for a quarter-pound of seven-year cheddar) and advise you on wine and liquor pairings. Hit up the cracker aisle before you leave: It's a fine selection.
