Yes, the name sounds like Jim Henson may have designed it, but be assured there are no fluffy puppets inside this charming dive bar. What is here is a strong neighborhood hangout that occasionally features Bosnian music, even though it's quite small. No one seems to mind being crowded (the space maxes out at 50) when the music is so much fun.
What Cafe Muppet is really known for its pool. The bar has pool leagues Monday through Thursday nights and free pool all of the time.
There are no draft beers at Cafe Muppet, but with drink prices as low as they are it won't really bother you. A wide selection of bottle beers and mixed drinks will keep you (and your wallet) perfectly content. The bar also offers coffee and espresso drinks.
The atmosphere is divey without being dirty, but also without being Wicker Park-hip. Its stucco accents give it a slightly Spanish feel. The bar also has several small flat-screen televisions that help brighten its dim interior.
Cafe Muppet does not serve food, though it has a kitchen and may someday expand its offerings. But for now you'll just have to be content with cheap drinks, good company, free pool and great service. And why wouldn't you?
