Don't bother bringing your passport; everyone can claim citizenship at this River North bar. While its atmosphere isn't necessarily warm (think modern, loft-style with exposed brick, mirrors, dark wood and a red and silver color scheme), the drinks, food and outdoor patios will make you want to take up residency.
Light, fancy fare like salads, crostinis, bruschetta, and paninis grace the menu. Finger foods like avocado, goat cheese and caper crostini and portabella mushroom, roasted garlic and gorgonzola bruschetta are sold by the piece and priced so that you can have a little bit of everything—they cost around $2 to $3 a piece.
The Bar serves beer and spirits, but its 50-bottle wine list is a better complement to the upscale fare. Sparkling, white, rose and red options are sold by the glass ($7-$16) and by the bottle (the list tops out at around $60). Here, a new day means a new drink special. Monday will have you throwing back $2 Millers or $3 Jager, but come Tuesday you'll be living the good life with half price bubbly. Have a $5 Effen on Wednesday or a $4 Pilsner on Thursday; just don't miss Friday's $8 food and wine special. Saturday, Citizen hosts "Rockstar DJ's" and Sunday brings $4 Peroni beer and 50-cent appetizers.
When the weather is warm, the most popular place to be is outdoors. Enjoy the company of the city and take your glass of wine and three-cheese panini out onto the 2,000 square-foot patio or rooftop deck.
