Editorial Review of Flight

Contrary to popular belief, suburbanites know how to have a good time, too. And thanks to Flight Restaurant & Wine Bar, they don't have to schlep downtown to find a nightspot with a sophisticated, city vibe.

Given its location in "The Glen," former site of the Glenview Naval Air Base, the restaurant's name (and matching aeronautic theme) is fitting. But wait, Flight has a double meaning: In the world of vino, the term "flight" refers to a sampling of a few wines that complement one another. In addition to a fine selection of flights, Flight boasts a lengthy list of reserve wines and more than 60 wines by the glass. Wine connoisseurs and newbies alike will appreciate Flight's resident wine expert, who roams the restaurant five nights per week to answer questions or to suggest the perfect food and wine pairings.

A stellar wine list isn't the only thing to write home about. Let's not forget the contemporary American cuisine and out-of-this world desserts (mmm, chocolate fondue). Rack of lamb, seared Ahi tuna and filet mignon (at $22, $23 and $24 respectively) are the most popular items on the dinner menu, and rumor has it the herb-parmesan fries are an absolute must. The lunch menu features super-gourmet salads and about a dozen sandwiches, which range from $8-$11 and come with your choice of French fries or mixed greens.

Take advantage of Flight's outdoor patio, private party room and weekly specials, such as five-dollar Skyy martinis on Mondays or two-for-one entrees from 4-6 p.m. on weekdays.
