Four Shadows, located on the corner of Diversey and Ashland, is almost remarkable for its lack of remarkableness. That's not a put-down, though. The bar takes its theme—the quintessential corner bar—and runs with it, providing a place for the residents of West Lakeview/Lincoln Park to have a beer, watch the game and get some grub. On warm days, the large front windows open up, making a fifth of the space feel like a patio. Inside offers just what you'd expect—a long wooden bar, an exposed brick wall, tables dotting the open spaces, a big Guinness sign and big, immaculate televisions playing whatever game happens to be on.
The beers you'd hope to find on tap are all there, and so are the liquors you'd count on seeing on the back shelf. The atmosphere is casual—don't be surprised if you find yourself sitting next to the bartender as you both watch baseball on a slow night—and everyone seems to be in a friendly mood. The first time you walk in to Four Shadows, you get the feeling you've been there a thousand times before. And that's the idea.
