Tiny Hubbard Woods french bakery/cafe run by Frank and Betsie, who have been serving the Chicago area since 1984. Formerly known as Maison de Patisserie in Highland Park, Frank and Betsie moved to the Hubbard Woods Shopping District, where they opened a 54-seat restaurant serving light French and California cuisine.
The cafe-style setting comes complete with an assortment of wines from around the world and a full bar. The lunch menu, which hovers around $12, includes light bites like quiche du jour, salade nicoise and cold poached salmon. The dinner menu covers all the bases, with duck, seafood, pork, beef and chicken. Betsie's pastries are much-touted; don't pass on the cookies.
Frank and Betsie set some tables outside for lunch and dinner during good weather. Reservations are taken and recommended for the weekend.
Average cost: $10-$20
