NOW CLOSED...Formerly: Boystown gay and lesbian piano bar.The first time I ever went into the Gentry was by accident. It was last year on my birthday and we were out and about on Halsted Street at 1 am on a Wednesday. I had to use the bathroom and ducked into the first open place I saw. I'm glad we walked in there, because what we found was a cause for celebration.
Not only was Honey West (the famous Chicago drag queen) singing there that night, but she sang "Chapel of Love" for me and my sweetheart and married us there, that very night (we were engaged). No wonder I have a sweet spot in my heart for Gentry.
Seriously, though, this bar deserves more than a quick mention. Friendly staff and clientele make this place a fun bar to hang out in. The whole room is tastefully decorated and oriented around a piano where pianists and singers (Like Honey) provide live entertainment each night. It's also nice because it has a neighborhood feel. Go there. I promise you'll like it.
