A menu's burger section has a certain magnetic appeal. A juicy patty can lure us away from just about any culinary finery.
River North's Hop Haus lets us have our burger and eat it haute, too.
Boasting over 20 different kinds of burgers priced between $8-$13, the expansive menu is divided into Cheesy Burgers, Worldly Burgers (like The Italian, topped with provolone, pepperoni, bruschetta and pesto mayo), Pseudo Burgers (aka sandwiches) and, our favorite, Wildish Burgers. And by wild, we mean burgers made of kangaroo, ostrich, elk and even wild boar.
Besides being a burger-lover's heaven, the Hop Haus stocks its bar with nearly 50 different beers, at least 15 of which you've probably never heard of before. Kewpie Seaweed Ale, anyone? The menu conveniently lists a recommended beer pairing with every burger on the menu. Dark wood, a long crowded bar and enormous flatscreens lend a sports bar ambiance while vinyl, checkered tablecloths and hilarious photos of sports celebs in their less-than-flattering moments add an element of kitsch to the scene.
The best part? The 4 a.m. liquor license and a kitchen that stays open just as late.
