Perhaps the third time's the charm for this bar that just won't die. Iggy's moved into this River North location after 13 years in River West and three in Wicker Park, and not much has changed beyond the size (this incarnation seats only 44). The blood-red walls feature the familiar sock-monkey-and-horror-movie motif and the hip, slightly angry, pierced, tattooed and black-clad staff you've come to know and hopefully love from the other locales. One big difference? Dion Antic (the man behind
La Tache,
Toast,
Firefly and others) is merely a consultant on this one.
Giant, ice-cold flavored and classic martinis ($11) draw many thirsty patrons to Iggy's; that and the fantastic late-night kitchen where food is served until last call at 2 a.m. I actually had dreams about the spicy angel hair and fresh mozzarella, and it's back along with favorites like artichoke-heart fritters, spicy calamari linguini, lemon-butter bowtie pasta and shrimp and asparagus risotto. If you want to avoid the inevitable crowds, go for the curbside carryout.
Iggy's motto is "Hear no evil, speak no evil, have no fun." It'll make more sense when you roll in for a Sunday night horror movie after sundown or participate in the annual "Iggy's Bike Thing" motorcycle event in September.
