There's no need to leave the premises to pass the time while your clothes get sudsy at the Saga Launder. Follow the kitsch-covered Laundromat's arrows straight through the back door and into a corridor that bridges two unlikely worlds: the Laundromat and the late-night bar. Halfway down the hall, the decor transitions from vintage ads touting phrases like "rubbing is ruin" to Cubs calendars and beer specials.
Wood-paneled walls, early '90s hits and TV sports set the mood at Newport, where you're just as likely to find business-folk taking advantage of the free wifi as you are to see guys knocking back a bottle while waiting for their load to dry. Between the pool table, Golden Tee and bookcase overflowing with board games like Clue and Balderdash, there's plenty to keep you occupied. And with a bottle of Fat Tire or pint of Guinness, Bass or Harp from the tap by your side, you'll be happy to do laundry any day.
In addition to bar food standards like jalapeno poppers, pizza and burgers, the hefty menu serves up a surprising selection of salads like oriental chicken and chicken taco. Sandwiches range from the traditional rib, grilled chicken and BLT variety to a multi-ethnic milieu of crab cakes, chicken marsala and prosciutto and mozzarella-topped saltimbocca, all served with Cajun or regular fries. Brunch is served on the weekends from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. and includes steak and eggs, omelets, French toast and biscuits and "artery clogging" gravy.
