You won't know you've reached Poitin Stil until you're literally at its front stoop, as its surroundings are nothing more than a city park and old Rogers Park homes. The name, pronounced "poo-chine still," means moonshine in Gaelic, and with slight prodding, owner Susan Murphy will eagerly point out the antiquated black-and-white picture of her father and grandfather making the illegal beverage.

Murphy decorated her pub with maroon and gold accents, paying homage to the colors of her hometown (Galway, Ireland) soccer team. Located where Charmers (Chicago's oldest gay bar) used to stand, the fact that Poitin Stil carried Guinness, Smithwick's and Murphy's on tap clearly denotes its Irish theme.

Many of the pub's patrons are (surprise!) Irish, but the drink specials are good enough to draw any crowd. Among the nightly specials are $3 import drafts and $2 domestic drafts on Mondays and $2.50 Amstel Light or Corona on Thursdays. If you don't already have reason enough to check it out, hop on over to Poitin Stil for live music on Fridays and Saturdays and an open-mic night on Thursdays.
