Remember keg-filled college parties, jocks and their stereotypical blonde cheerleader counterparts, and the thrill of watching sports while guzzling beer? You can relive those frat-and-sorority days at this Lakeview bar that touts itself as "Chicago's home of the Big Ten." It's got the booze, the TVs and the sports paraphernalia to back up the claim.
Judging from the exterior, this place may have encountered a wild tailgating party: the specials sign is nearly ripped down, the built-in ATM is totally busted and the yellow paint on the big "U" sign could use some serious touching up. But the sports fanatics who show up here don't come for a well-heeled experience; they come to watch sports and drink beer. Drink like a fish for only $10 during Happy Hours on Tuesdays from 7–10 p.m. and Fridays 6–9 p.m., or load-up during regular hours on $5 Newcastles or $2 Buds and Miller Lites. Sip away inside the darkened tavern either at the wooden counter or one of the many tables while watching sports on one of the many screens. They all play the same thing simultaneously, so you'll get to see sports from every angle.
Order up some cheaply priced bar food, like a burger, buffalo wings, mozzarella sticks or jalapeno poppers. Food rotates often, so come with an open mind and an empty belly. Beware the hordes of college kids that attack this place come game time and Happy Hour—be prepared to deal with them or find another place to watch the game!
