Though its home is in Lincoln Square, just step into Wild Goose Bar & Grill and you'll see high-fives a-flying, plasma TVs flashing and encounter that comforting of liquor-meets-burgers aroma that's so native to Wrigleyville.
I first discovered Wild Goose when I lived in North Center a few years ago and needed a spot to "watch the game" with a few friends. Before the Packers and Bears players made it to the field, the whole group of us had completed round one of Sunday's $7 All-U-Can-Drink Build-Your-Own bloody mary bar. Granted, we were drunk before half time, but when something's only offered from 11 a.m.-3 p.m., one needs to make good use of those unlimited pours.
It's a great deal, but not an isolated one. Wild Goose stands above most sports bars in its amazing array of food and drink specials: Mondays serve 10-cent chicken wings; Wednesdays bring on $1 burgers with fries; and Fridays boils down to the $5.75 all-you-can-eat fish fry.
You'll also find Southwestern nachos, Guinness Rings, burgers and the Cajun tuna steak sandwich on the large menu. The Sunday brunch makes for full-on bar-side tailgating, so long as you combine those bottomless bloodies with your huevos rancheros. With its 13 TVs, Chicago memorabilia and high tables, the Wild Goose experience is certainly sporty one, right down to the "Goose Girls"—the bar's consciously-cute waitresses. It makes the bar feel like a man's world at times, but that's par for the course in the land of sports.
