Northwestern University music alum recently returned to his alma mater as Professor of Trumpet after a long tenure as Professor of Trumpet at the Eastman School of Music (where he was also a member of the Eastman Brass). He originally joined the Chicago Symphony Orchestra after graduating from NU, and remained for a dozen years (during which he was also principal trumpet for the Grant Park Symphony Orchestra). He was principal trumpet of the Houston Symphony Orchestra for 3 years beginning in 1978. Geyer is currently a member of the Chicago Chamber Musicians, and a regular guest soloist with Houston's DaCamera Society, Chicago's Music of the Baroque, and co-principal trumpet of the Grand Teton Music Festival Orchestra.
He has recorded with the Eastman Brass, Music of the Baroque, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Houston Symphony Orchestra, and the Contemporary Chamber Players of Chicago. He and Barbara Butler (another Eastman to NU transplant) recently recorded a disc entitled Music for Two Trumpets and Organ.
