| Evanston-born pianist began playing with legendary saxophonist Gene Ammons before he was of voting age. After moving East during the '50s, Mance played the bands of Cannonball Adderley and Dizzie Gillespie. His style is bluesy and tradition-tinged -- though certainly not uninteresting -- and well-documented on recordings.
