From the Artist:
This year's tribute to the Improvisational Singer Showcase will feature Cano Estremera. Born in Puerto Rico, Estremera studied under the likes of Los Pleneros del Quinto Olivo, then moved on to Orchestra Mulenze, and finally spent 6 years with the legendary Bobby Valentín Orchestra before embarking on his solo career. Over the years he has managed to elevate the art of improvisation to new, more challenging heights. In addition to his avant-garde approach to his craft, Estremera has been the leading proponent of improvisational battles among soneros (salsa singers). In these events, singers are vulnerable to other singers’ witty attacks, and are forced to respond. Estremera has long been feared and admired in these contests, making his mere participation a proving ground for other soneros. Check Aguzate.org for more info
