As a pop culture icon, DJ Jazzy Jeff, knows all about the pitfalls that come with being a celebrity—from passive aggressive art to straight TMZ buffoonery. Fortunately for the Philly native, he's been able to steer clear of the nonsense by putting in the work and mastering his craft one album at a time. Contributions to Rapster and BBE has kept Jazz's name in constant rotation for well over two decades now, and with his newest project (This Way featuring Toronto native Ayah) on deck, it looks like he still has plenty moxie left in the tank. For his set at Beauty Bar, I wouldn't expect him to deter too far from his crisp palette of neo-soul gems (including a cut or two from his new album), but don't be surprised if he ventures down the electro boogie/disco tip that most soul DJs have grown a liking to. Either way, pairing Jazz up with local party starters the Cool Kids (DJ set only) is the right move as this will be a bonafide dance party for both scenesters and hip-hop heads alike. (J. Min)
