Though they’ve been increasingly ditching the reverb-to-the-heavens Southern Kentucky soul we all fell in love with back when rock needed it most, both Z (2005) and Evil Urges (2008) were Radiohead-like attempts to change the game in a more prog-like way. And judging from Jim James’ repeated tiebacks to the heel-kicks he’s been having with the Monsters of Folk, telling the BBC's 6Music the pop-folk format has him longing for the MMJ days of yore, this stay on the hobby horse tour of sorts should hint at what’s to come of the next record.
