While the success of producer/MC El-P has been widely noted—from his days with Company Flow and the Weathermen to the rise and fall of Def Jux—it isn't exactly easy to pinpoint what it is that makes El so damn entertaining. Maybe it’s his production work (his sound set the standard for those looking to match that same industrial grit) or maybe it’s his crass attitude towards all things authoritarian or perhaps it’s his knowledge of hip-hop’s deficiencies. Who knows exactly, but on stage it just all manages to come together.
The reunion of Company Flow this past year rekindled the love that has been stewing since Def Jux closed its doors, and like the true strategist he is El found it as a perfect opportunity to promote his newest project Cancer 4 Cure. His set at Bottom Lounge with Killer Mike (who also has a new album entitled R.A.P. Music) will likely sellout so it’s highly recommended you get your tickets in advance. If you have yet to see Killer Mike's video "Big Beast" featuring El you are sorely missing out. (J. Min)
