WHY?. Doseone, Serengeti, Jel (DJ Set)
After a brief hiatus, Anticon recording ensemble WHY? returns with a new EP entitled Sod in the Seed. The project, which is a stylistic amalgamation of Eskimo Snow and their forthcoming LP Mumps Etc., blends elements of hip-hop and rhythmic indie rock, a creative effort that more than anything documents the transition from one ambitious soundscape to the next. WHY?’s current tour has taken them all over America, and joining them (for a majority of the trip) are fellow labelmates Doseone and local MC Serengeti, who has been hard at work promoting his own project C.A.R. The bill reads like a “most wanted” list for lyrical misfits, and it'll likely be the best rap show of the summer. Bold statement, yes, but since there are so many connections with these artists and the city it’s not at all farfetched. (J. Min)
