Few collectives out there have been able to capture the aesthetic of Afrobeat, and even fewer have done it in a progressive manner. Antibalas is one of those bands. Since their first album Liberation Afrobeat Vol. 1 (rereleased by Ninja Tune), Antibalas has been on a steady rise to the top. When they decided to sign with Daptone in 2004 the collective found an appropriate house to nurture their now flourishing sound. In recent months the group has been the backing band for Fela!, a Broadway musical celebrating the life of Fela Anikulapo Kuti, and with each passing show their stock continues to rise. Lincoln Hall will be the perfect venue to catch them, as the sound system is superior to most. Early arrival is highly recommended. (J. Min).
