What started out as a simple exploration of sound, Ariel Rosenberg has now amassed a library of heartwarming lo-fi pop masterpieces. Stylistically there’s a perfect blend of melody and lyrical ambiguity, resulting in a pure and balanced composition. Not too heady, and certainly not too serious. But despite the abstract nature in which Ariel Pink’s Haunted Graffiti operates it’s not to say that they are destined to remain in lo-fi purgatory. Their newest album Mature Themes continue to push the limits while still capturing the harmonious rhythms of a time long gone. You can expect them to press this album hard during their set at Metro, and the addition of Dam-Funk (who collaborated with Ariel Pink on a cover of Joe Emerson’s “Baby”) will certainly make things interesting if not downright soulful.
