Date: November 25-December 24, 2009
Cost: Free
Organizer: German American Services, Inc.
What to expect: An open-air market in Daley Plaza featuring holiday ornaments, crafts, food and more.
Why to go: If Santa's house or the merry go-round don't get you going, maybe the gluhwein will. The hot spiced red wine will warm you up on what are sure to be some chilly shopping days.
Additional info: The Christkindlmarket (literally "Christ Child Market") is based on the famous outdoor Christmas fairs in Germany, which date back to medieval times. In addition to the many shopping options, sweet treats include gingerbread, stollen, holiday cookies, waffles, roasted almonds and candies. Entertainment includes carol singers and brass bands.
