Date: July 9, 2009
Cost: $27 race registration before June 1; $30 after June 1
Organizer: Chicago Special Events Management
What to expect: A fun run through the West Loop, followed by a party full of food, drinks and live music from some of the hottest regional acts.
Why to go: There's nothing like the promise of a party to keep you motivated during your run -- or you can skip the race altogether and get to celebrating.
Additional info: The event benefits the Mercy Home for Boys & Girls. The finish line area funnels into the Block Party, which opens just as the 'start gun' for the race goes off. Non-runners are welcome at the Block Party, to enjoy the food and beer and live music. The awards presentation will take place around 8:30 p.m., with medals for the Overall Male and Female Champions in the run. Age group finishers can claim their medals at the awards table near the stage. Local power-pop bands Dot Dot Dot performs until the last participants leave, at around 10 p.m.
