Chicago is no slouch when it comes to chocolates. The Blommer Factory emits a cloud of delicious chocolate scents over the West Loop. Riots nearly broke out when Fannie May announced it would leave Chicago. And the mad scientists at Vosges are making bizarre flavors including a very Chicago-appropriate chocolate bar that is infused with bacon.
But while Lindt is not a homegrown product, the chain has stores across the globe for a reason the Swiss chocolatiers have been in the business since 1845. And while many of their products can be found in the grocery aisles nowadays, the store holds a number of extra goodies that cant be found in just any candy aisle.
Arguably the most famous product the company offers are its Lindor truffles hard chocolate shell exteriors with creamy chocolate filling inside. The white chocolate has a sweet shell that gives way to an eggy, rich filling. The hazelnut represents its smooth, smoky namesake well. The dark chocolate is strong, and notably thicker a powerful flavor not to be approached casually. A bag of any of their 12 different varieties can be bought for $12.99 (or two bags for $20). The equally ubiquitous chocolate bars also come in a wide variety, including their special "excellence" line with single-country source cocoa beans (Madagascar, Ecuador, and Peru are available).
The store also has several gift ideas for those who want to choclify their special occasions. Gift boxes range from a modest $15 to a regal $100 basket which includes a selection of truffles, select chocolates, and the book "Lindt Chocolate Passion." There's even something for cocoa-centric brides and grooms tiny gown or tux-shaped wedding favor gift boxes filled with chocolates for $2.50 a pop.
