It's Labor Day weekend in Chicago...we're thinking meat should be involved.

Holiday's pork chop Bring a big appetite for Holiday's pork chop breakfast.

So, summer's "over." It shouldn't change how you treat your weekends. Fall forward into pork chops for breakfast, burgers for lunch and wine all day. Top it all off with some next-wave rock artists, and you'll forget all about those dreamy days on the beach. Well, maybe.

Dig in
Holiday Grill & Bar

It takes a true meat-and-potatoes lover to start the day with a grilled pork chop. Add eggs, toast and hashbrowns into the mix and you may find yourself curled back up in bed, sleeping off a food coma. But it's hard not to take advantage of the dish when it doesn't cost you a dime over $7. If you want to keep it a little cheaper and a little less meaty, go for the Three Deuces: pancakes, eggs and your choice of bacon or sausage. Breakfast specials run Monday through Saturday starting at 6 a.m. Additionally, Holiday Grill & Bar offers free wi-fi and a sidewalk cafe during the warmer months.

Still hungry? Sample these other early-bird specials.

Imbibe away
Logan Bar & Grill

Planned in the mold of the popular Northside Bar and Grill (which is owned by the same group), Logan brings an air of sportiness rarely seen in the Logan Square 'hood. You can debate the merits of the Square's need for a sports bar, but you can't argue against solid burgers and sandwiches and specials like New York Strip steak and asiago cheese-tossed linguini.

This ain't the only new game in town. Our list of recently opened bars proves it.

The Graduate, Holiday Parade, Thieves and Villains, Never Shout Never

6:30 p.m. Saturday at Subterranean; $5 in advance, $8 at the door
Fresh off a stint at the top of the College Music Journal charts, Springfield's The Graduate is looking to expand its reach into the big(ger) city. This headlining set as part of the new Emerging Artist Showcase at Subterranean (the series continues through the end of the year) is a pretty good start. Expect this all-ages event to be filled with upbeat, sincere pop-rock—the kind of stuff you can't help but tap your foot to. Atlanta's Holiday Parade, New York's Thieves and Villains, and Missouri's Never Shout Never fill out the bill, along with a secret special guest, who you'll probably be seeing on MTV2 in a matter of weeks.

Windy City Wine Festival

4-10 p.m. Friday, 3-10 p.m. Saturday at Daley Bicentennial Plaza; $10-$30 (under 21 admitted free with paid adult)
Head to Millennium Park this weekend to bone up on wines from around the world (Germany, France, Italy, Austria, Spain, Portugal, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Chile and Argentina will all be represented in addition to various regions of the U.S.) and you'll end up with enough ammo to impress your friends at the next dinner party. Plus, you'll find food from local restaurants (including Butter, which is no longer open for regular business), music, cooking demonstrations and more.

Festivals don't end just 'cause summer does...check out these other events.
