Henry Blake Fuller
1857 - 1929

Born and raised in Chicago, Henry Blake Fuller later traveled abroad and came to think that European culture was superior to American. He moved to Europe but could not escape America for long -- when his father died, he returned to Chicago to take over the family business. Fuller tried his hand at both realistic and fanciful writing styles, but his realism is said to have been more influential. "The Cliff-Dwellers" examines the lives of Chicago apartment-dwellers. He also wrote satirical works, including "The New Flag," a collection of poems about politicians, and "Not on the Screen," which poked fun at movies. Fuller sometimes wrote under the pseudonym Stanton Page.
