The best thing about Kinetic Playground just might be its location. Situated in the thick of Uptown (off the corner of Lawrence and Broadway Avenues) this music venue is surrounded by history. The spot's vibrantly painted windows, plastered with the faces of Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison and Bob Dylan, also play into the neighborhood's tradition by digging into its musical roots.
But it's not just rock 'n' roll at this psychedelic-themed spot. Musicians and DJs of all genres grace the Playground's stage. From electronica to jazz to bluegrass, the music is always changing, along with the equally eclectic crowd. An industrial interior of metallic walls and neon lights might spark nostalgia for those who once rocked out in their parents' basement. And while you may never again feel the tinge of delight from your first smoke or sip of vodka, the bar's nightly drink specials ($4 domestics and well cocktails) will help bring you close to that happy place.
Check the Kinetic Playground's website for upcoming shows; you can buy tickets online or at the door. If the live music and cheap drink specials haven't already swayed you, the free parking (in the back) certainly will. Shows usually start around nine and the Uptown Lounge is right across the street for all your pre-drinking needs.
