NOW CLOSED...Formerly: The misspelled and underbudgeted (they had to use 2 "n"s for an "m") sign that welcomes you, informing you that there is, indeed, "Live Entertianment" provides no clues to what you are in for. Well, maybe a few clues.
What you get is a skinny room with a bar on the right side, which the band plays behind, and a few diminutive boothish tables. What has given this place its reputation is the band, Night Watch. The bandmembers, probably three once long ago unkempt youngsters, now unkempt senior citizens, keep the late night audience entertained every weekend night with virtually the same set. A few numbers are thrown in that include audience members, the occasional famous musician and local folks getting in some practice or simply showing off.
The weekends also attract an influence of affluence as those from sports bars that close at 2 or 3 a.m. meander here like drunken pilgrims in search of something holy. During the week, however, the attitudes and personalities of the regulars shine brightly and sometimes sourly in the less populated arena. While the jukebox gently weeps, an elderly woman with a smoker's hack and a bum hip cleans glasses, and the smoke seems to hover over you, threatening to choke your future. Anyway, this is a rural Texas-like bar that became famous because of its weekend revelry. Stop by then and you will walk into a glorious camaraderie of drunks careening along on one big drunken bus ride. (Jeremy Fredeen)
