The
InterContinental Hotel at
O'Hare Airport is trying to be something more than just a hotel. Opening with the addition of both a world class art museum and a photo gallery, the ICO is making solid attempts to stand out from the other lodging offerings near the travel hub. To that end, the hotel is attempting to get in on the live music scene with the addition of the Montrose Room, a venue for live bands.
Having kicked things off with hometown favorite Michael McDermott, the Montrose Room has been booking other Chicago bands and featuring events for local radio stations since its inception. The large room plays host to a curious crowd: hotel patrons who have wandered in to check the place out as part of their free admission, and genuine fans who have come to the venue to support the bands and see a show.
Either way, the Montrose Room tries to keep things fun for all. The event planner seems to work overtime coming up with costume contests, themed events and other competitions to make things livelier. Interactivity is encouraged as well, and a "secret password" for free admission can be obtained by poking around the venue's website.
