The Petrillo Music Shell is the home of the mainstage for many of Chicago's free Summer Music Festivals, which include the
Chicago Blues Festival,
Chicago Gospel Music Festival,
Taste of Chicago and the
Chicago Jazz Festival.
The Symphony plays evenings during the summer months. Can't beat the price (free), and the GPSO guest roster is always worth noting. Folding chairs are near the pavilion, and you can picnic on the lawn beyond.
The shell is named after James Petrillo who, as president of the Chicago Federation of Musicians and commissioner of the Chicago Park District, started providing free concerts in Grant Park.
