What to expect: Samples of Chicago's best and most authentic eats along with thousands of others, plus a great live music lineup.

Why to go: Sure, there's the food. But there's also My Morning Jacket, Ray Davis, The O'Jays, Jo Dee Messina, India.Arie and more.

Additional info: There will be over 60 restaurant booths catering to the crowd. Each “Taste portion,” a smaller serving of the restaurant’s regular menu item, generally costs one to three tickets. Major credit cards are accepted. There will be Independence Eve Fireworks at 7:30 p.m. on July 3, accompanied by the Grant Park Orchestra.

Directions  to Taste of Chicago

Exit Metra Electric Line Randolph-South Water Street, Van Buren or Roosevelt and head east. From North or West suburbs, hop off at Ogilvie Transportation Center and take a cab east (it's approximately a 30-minute walk).

On the L, exit Harrison, Monroe/State, Washington/State, Jackson or Roosevelt and take a quick jog toward the lake.
