Located in Chicago's burgeoning South Loop neighborhood, Wabash Tap—which is located just north of upscale eateries like Opera and Gioco—gives the area a low-key drinking and dining option.
The food is a mix of bar basics like cheeseburgers (and double cheeseburgers, if a single just won’t do), Philly cheese steak sandwiches and chili, served daily until 1 a.m.
Drinks are also a mostly no-frills affair; Wabash offers beer like PBR and Miller Lite by the reasonably priced bottle or pitcher (although, beer connoisseurs take note: Smithwick’s and Blue Moon are also available by the pitcher for $15).
The bar has plenty of TVs and also sometimes hosts live music nights, but its mix of patrons—college kids from nearby Columbia, construction workers, people in suits—is the real draw.
Average cost: <$10
