It's a bar! It's a music venue! It's an art gallery! It's a record label!
It's Logan Square’s latest addition to the local music and art scene, courtesy of Whistler Records founders Rob Brenner and Billy Hellenkamp. The Whistler brings a bit more diversity to the nightlife choices in the area; kind of like an arty neighborhood bar, the Whistler’s atmosphere is hip but not quite hipster. While nightly DJs and live music are already on tap, also expect rotating storefront art installations, film screenings and other events.
The bar seats about 60, which makes the place a tight fit during peak bar hours, but for good reason. The bartender serves stylish takes on "old man" drinks – think sidecars, whiskey sours and other high-spirited favorites (most run about $8).
Since the Whistler's bartender takes the "mixology" approach to serving one up, you may have to wait awhile for your drink, but there is plenty of music and art to keep you entertained.
