Like so many others, this is a small record store, but it’s packed with enough godly music to absolve you of your sins for this lifetime and the next. The original store in Oak Park is the holy shrine of all soul music, with an owner so devoted (Lee Johnson) that you can sing him a tune and he’ll name it for you within seconds, if not less. He knows gospel musical history inside and out, and if there’s a heaven, there’s undoubtedly a place for him there.
For now there’s a new store on 10723 S. Halsted as more and more are converted to the sound. Both stores sell vinyl, CDs, and even a good selection of cassette tapes, as well as tickets to local gospel shows. The selection is not only traditional, but extends to modern artists as well, and the pricing is reasonable, with CDs ranging between roughly $9 for singles and $15 -$19 for doubles.
