Animate Objects

Animate Objects is a six piece hip-hop band consisting of Czar Absolute (MC), A-Dub (keys), Prashant (bass), Brian (drums) Steve (guitar) and DJ Mabbo. They first formed at Champaign-Urbana in 2003, and quickly gained notoriety as they won the "Triangle Battle of the Bands," in just their second week of existence. While at Urbana, the group contributed to the local music scene by laying down the foundation for the first student run record label in the Big Ten, called Green Street Records.

The Animate Objects are slowly emerging as one of the most exciting hip-hop bands to come out of the city since Liquid Soul. The band mixes melodious keyboard harmonies and kinetic guitar riffs with sophisticated percussion rhythms and deep-pocketed basslines, forming a sound as diverse as its cultural background. Animate Objects has been featured in countless publications and has won numerous awards including best rap/hip-hop song in the 2008 Independent Music Awards for their hit single "El Dorado."

The band continues to gain praise from music critics and aficionados alike while opening for national acts such as Digable Planets, Soul Position, Jneiro Jarel, Illogic and European super-group VOO VOO. Their debut album Riding in Fast Cars With Your Mama won the WPGU/Buzz local music award for best hip-hop band.
