BMC

A band of diverse reputation, BMC play a cerebral postmodern popadelia that has been described as "roll music". Ranging in influence from Radiohead to Paul Simon to Gershwin and back to Radiohead, BMC have spearheaded the Near Audio Panic movement, an offshoot of an itself-fledgling "twee" movement. Their debut album, 2000's On A Rolling Doughnut (Whakstax), became an esoteric favorite among Chicago and regional listeners. From the jangly, Fables of the Reconstruction-era R.E.M. inspired pop of "Sidewalk Chalk", to the Bowie-laced melonchalia celebre of "Selling Space", Rolling is an allpointsinbetween barometer of serotonin release activity. Intellectually stimulating live performances feature inventive use of sound and melody, as BMC has proven to be among the most adept improvisational talents in the Midwest, invoking some to describe the band as The Beatles meet Medeski, Martin, and Wood, which, true or not, would make for some good viewing.
