Bajawalla

Pressed from the smoky bars and cramped house parties of South Bend IN, Bajawalla is a band that has redefined music at one of America’s oldest college institutions for five years running. Blending their own style of Midwest reggae dub, indy rock and funk, Bajawalla seeks to break traditions and construct a new alternative to bland commercial rock, to offer a good exciting and original sound to anyone looking to unwind.

The band formed in Spring 2000 when the Miller brothers and Santiago were visiting Notre Dame. A mutual love for Sublime and punk rock quickly mixed with the three members’ Pacific Ocean histories and influences and the band began jamming on a regular basis. That Fall, they added Maimone, a piano player forged from years of classical training fused with a love for American classic rock, and the band began to land gigs. Originally calling themselves Housebound, the group’s first sound was a pop/reggae combination. Clipped to play at off-campus house parties, the band quickly picked up a following among the drinking and dancing crowd with originals such as Everybody Get Down, a song that continues to get clubs moving today. Constantly evolving, the Miller brothers, Santiago and Maimone began experimenting with funk and rock sounds over the next year. In 2002, they changed the name of their group to Station One, adding Bass player Seus, a gifted young music prodigy and composer fluent in a wide array of instruments ranging from guitar to harp and a seasoned veteran of several garage bands. By early 2004. the band’s energetic performances had earned them the ears of countless students on campus and had made them a popular act among the Notre Dame crowd playing all of the biggest bars that would house live music, including Corby’s, the State Theater, and Club 23, as well as to sold-out crowds at O’Laughlin Auditorium and Washington Hall. Changing their name to Bajawalla in mid-2004, the band looks to carry on its tradition of delivering eclectic and entertaining rock shows that get the drinkers boozin, the feet movin, and the dancers groovin.

The band is currently unsigned, and relocated to Chicago in May ‘05 to play full-time and record a new album. Their studio/pad is in Irving Park, so drop in for a brew if you're in the area.
