| Trumpter Goode, who came to town after college in the mid-80s recently left Chicago (September, 1997) to become Professor of Music at the University of Cincinnati. Since then, he's been a jazz mainstay in Chicago, holding down the prestigious Wednesday night gig at the Green Mill since 1986!, as well as Cleveland, Columbus, and southeastern Michigan. Goode has a bright tone, light technique, complicated solos in a a host of jazz styles, and a thorough command of his instrument -- though perhaps his classical background shows through a bit often for some. Describing Goode's Sextet, Chicago Tribune critic Howard Reich say "Here are compositions of considerable stylistic breadth and musical depth, with Goode building on his bebop and pre-bebop roots to create a harmonically adventurous language of his own." Releases include Shock of the New (Delmark Records).
