If there is a harder working man in the local hip-hop/rap scene, I would like to see him. For almost 10 years, DJ 3rd Rail has been all over the Chicago rap scene; making over 25 underground mix tapes, collaborating with some of the hottest DJs, sponsoring hip-hop parties with good vibes, and above all else, pouring countless energy into his radio show "Dedicated," on WNUR FM (89.3). DJ 3rd Rail (or "3rd" for short), has been known for years as someone who has put personal gain aside to present and fulfill a need that he felt Chicago radio was lacking: a show dedicated to hip-hop in all forms, not just "popcorn." A typical "Dedicated" show will feature all styles from New School, Old School, Freestyle, and classic hip-hop.
After the show is over, DJ 3rd Rail allocates about an hour for listeners to call in and voice their opinions on any topic hip-hop related. This open-forum format seems to be the perfect metaphor to what hip-hop as a genre is all about - free expression and high emotionalism.
In the words of DJ 3rd Rail, 'keep it real' and check out a show presented by a local DJ who has been doing just that for 10 years. (C-Love)
"Dedicated" can be heard on WNUR-FM (89.3 FM) Sunday Evening from 12am-5am.
