Founded in 1993, this Chicago fivesome has four self released albums out including their latest Lotushead (1997) and 1995's Boutros Boutros Ghali named for the much loved and much reviled former General Secretary of the United Nations. (No word from Mr. Ghali on what he thought of the record...) DND is comprised of Kite Mosam (vocals, percussion), Rob Caya (guitars and backing vocals), Dave Baboorian (drums, percussion, backing vocals), Troy Gourley (bass, backing vocals), and Faris Suqi (guitar). They play a brand of freaky funk metal (they call it eclectic Americana) that owes a lot to Faith No More and especially FNM lead-singer Mike Patton's side project Mr. Bungle. Though the music isn't derivative per se, its wackiness and weird energy have a lot in common with FMN and old Red Hot Chili Peppers (though their political/social subject matter certainly separates them from the sophomoric efforts of the latter.) It's fun, high-energy party music that translates well to the stage. For more information, visit their website: http://idt.net/~nuggets9/
