| This prominent mainstream pianist, who passed away in January 2004, made many contributions to the music world. During his absence from Chicago, when he spent four years in Europe -- and more generally over the past decade -- Bennett refined his formerly muscular hard-bop and two-fisted bluesy swing, focusing on more compact and delicate improvisations. His Simplexity (1997) out of the British Candid Records was a trio date recorded while living in Amsterdam. Drummer George Fludas was his usual Chicago partner.
