| Daniel Barenboim's wife is an excellent piano soloist in her own right. Trained in the pyrotechnical Soviet school of playing, she has gradually picked up the finesse and understatement to fill out the package. When her husband is in town conducting, Bashkirova plays with a number of local groups. She was previously married to violinist Gidon Kremer.
