| Chicago session drummer extraordinaire, Kotche has ably backed a large cross section of the Chicago indie scene both on record and on tour. Some of his credits include: Paul K and the Weathermen, Chris Mills, Edith Frost, and the Cross Cooks. He has also toured with Portland, OR folk singer/songwriter Bill Santen a.k.a birddog and played on his Elliot Smith produced debut, the trackhouse, the valley, the liquor store drive-thru. We caught up with Kotche and Santen at the CMJ Music Festival in New York in 1997. Check out our interview. Kotche is a fantastic drummer and percussionist in an oddly melodic style that transcends the usual constraints of the rhythm section. He plays a wide variety of non-traditional and found percussion instruments with far greater ease than most players have behind a regular old drum kit. One of the most talented musicians on the Chicago scene, his work has been compared to some of the all time greats.
