Great Plains Gypsies

Chicago-based 4-piece started in 1995 when Dan Whitaker (singer, songwriter, guitarist and banjoist) and drummer/percussionist John Roche (previously both of experimental folk group A Horse Named Bill) to play original compositions. After recording a full-length CD, they asked a friend Scott Schenke to join on bass. Eventually, Schenke switched to guitar, vocals and mandolin, when bassist Tim Anderson joined in 1997. Multi-instrumentalist Tom Mioducki joined the group in 2004 to add keyboards and another guitar to the mix.

The group plays mostly originals, mixed with occasional traditional blues and folk tunes. They have four CDs; Meeting at the Building (1997), One Dark Day (1998), Ride the Blinds (2002) and their latest, Stare Into the Sun (2004).
