Insiders

Longtime Chicago straight-ahead rockers who almost made the big time a few years back. They still play around the city and suburbs. The Northside five-man three-guitar band, sold over 100,000 copies of their Epic Debut Ghost on the Beach (1987), but Epic -- for some reason -- decided not to release their follow-up (actually, the entire A&R staff at Epic was fired). Catchy, heartland pop Beatlesesque stuff, though -- and best heard live (when they don't seem quite as stiff).

In 1992, the Insiders formed their own label, Monsterdisc, and released Not for Sale, the record they were making for Epic when the were booted. Other recordings include Live @ Fitzgerald's (Monsterdisc, 1992), and Fate in Action (Monsterdisc, 1995).

You can also hear drummer Ed Breckenfeld as a member of the Cathy Richardson Band and The Juleps, on The Twigs Bring Me the Head of Eternity and Karen Anderson's Figure Me Out.
