| While working as a gas station attendant at the tender age of fourteen, Jel (an Arlington Heights native), had no idea that he would eventually turn Anticon into one of the most recognizable labels in underground hip-hop. The job did, however, help him get enough money to purchase a SP-1200, which eventually became the instrument of choice for most of his future albums.
In college, Jel worked behind the scenes at the Northwestern Radio Station (89.3 WNUR) where he met Kevin Beacham who eventually introduced him to Cincinnati rapper Doseone (together Dose and Jel are known as Themselves). The result: the underground classic Hemispheres (1997). Since then Jel has collaborated with Sole, Alias, Slug and Sage Francis to name a few. His all-instrumental series, Greenball, is a great introduction to a truly unique voice in hip-hop. For more information, visit their website: http://www.myspace.com/jelanticon
